Use of marble tile in a swimming pool

by Chet
(Fair Haven NJ)

We have a swimming pool that was built using marble instead of conventional ceramic pool tile.

Over the past 6 years, the marble has become dull and hazy.

Is it safe to use a marble enhancer in a swimming pool application?

If so, what product would you recommend?

Hi Chet,

I'm not exactly sure why you would want to use an enhancer on the marble tile.

An enhancer would only darken the stone. If that's what you're looking to do, then any stone enhancer would work fine.

I'm imagining that the marble tile that was installed, had a polished finish. I'm sure exposure to the sun is what dulled the finish.

To bring back a polished finish, you would need to have the marble honed and polished, which could be pricey.

Even if you did have the marble tile honed and polished, you know that they will dull again with exposure to the sun.

Using a stone enhancer would only darken the marble and not bring back the polished finish.

We sell a great stone enhancer called MB-21. I would recommend this enhancer for any porous stone you want to darken.

The stone will darken with each additional coat. MB-21 is my choice for an exterior stone enhancer.

I hope this information helps.

Rough Marble in Pool
by: Pedro

Hello!

I'm not sure marble is the best material for pool tile as it can be expensive to refinish.

The only way you can get it to a smooth state again is by refinishing the marble with diamond polishing.

This is best left to a professional and once the marble has been refinished, it most likely will become rough again with time.

In my experience, ceramic tile has been the most durable material for pool tile.

I hope this explanation helps.

Thanks!

Pedro
