Resealing slate tile on shower
by Terry

My shower is tiled with skate about 10 ys ago, but had not been kept well.
I cleaned and re-sealed with a water-based sealer about 2 months ago but a few of the tiles that were in the worst shape don't seem to hold a seal.
I've been reading on your site and am wondering if it can he resealed again with the enhancement seal?
Hi Terry,
The slate tiles that are not holding a seal most likely are water logged.
Remember, slate tile is very porous and you use your shower multiple times a day, everyday.
They most likely will not dry out. In my opinion, slate tile should not be used in a shower, but then again I see them in showers all the time.
An enhancing sealer on slate will change the appearance of the slate tile to a darker look.
This may help with the appearance, but you may have to let the slate tile dry out first before applying.
If you don't let them dry out before applying, you may have the same problem, with the slate tile not accepting the sealer to penetrate into the tile.
I hope this explanation helps.
