Honing marble slab under a toilet?
Hi---I live in an 1840's house that has a toilet set on a 3x3 marble slab.
The marble is dull, has some yellowish stains. I'm wondering what I could do to clean it, brighten it...possible bring back some shine and more white.
Thanks!
If you don't have experience honing and polishing, this may be a job for a company that restores marble. What they will do is hone the marble, removing a layer of marble and then assess if it is stained deep.
If it is stained deeper in the marble, then a poultice will have to be applied to remove the stain. If not stained or after the stain is removed then the marble will need to be honed with finer grit diamond pads to bring back the polished finish. The last step will be polishing with a polishing powder.
This is the restoration process in a nutshell, and can be done by you the homeowner, if you're willing to learn, make mistakes and lots of practice. It's best left to a expert who can do this much more efficiently and make it look great again.
Good luck with whatever you do.
