Grouting travertine with epoxy grout?
by Lisa Simmons
(Battle ground, wa.)
Just finished installing homed travtine tile floor, and porcelain tile with travertine accents In shower.
After much research I am sealing with Miracle 511 Seal and Enhance sealer.
Grouting with epoxy Spectralock grout. My question is that spectralock directions say to rinse grout 3 times with a 2 gallon water combined with 1/2 cup white vinegar mix.
Everything I've read says no acidic cleaners ( vinegar) on travertine or it will etch it.
is this dilute solution ok to clean the grout haze or should I try to do it with water only?
Im concerned that I won't be able to remove all the grout haze with water only!
thanks for your help.
Sincerely Lisa Simmons
Hi Lisa,
Yes that's correct, you have to be careful with acids near your travertine.
However in diluted amounts and if your travertine is a flat or honed finish, the diluted vinegar may be okay.
To be safe, do a sample area first before doing the entire area to see if the diluted vinegar takes off the grout haze and doesn't etch your travertine.
Good luck!
