Do you need to seal the travertine before installation?
Great question. I would say no. The reason being, travertine is very dense and the higher the polish on it, not much sealer will penetrate.
I always feel travertine should be sealed after installation, because I have seen staining first hand, more than one occasion.
Some in the industry don't feel travertine needs to be sealed at all. I guess I like to be safe rather than sorry.
I know the question is if travertine should be sealed before installation. The reason anyone seals before installation is to protect from grout being absorbed during the grouting process.
If you want to seal before installing it wont hurt, but I don't think you need to. Wait until it's installed and seal the travertine and grout together.
I hope this helps.
