Sealing Honed Granite
(Feeding Hills, MA)
What is the best sealer to use for honed white granite so it is not shiny when completed?
There are plenty of sealers you can use for your honed white granite.
I would recommend an impregnating sealer that is solvent based rather than water based.
The reason I would choose a solvent based sealer, is the carrier molecules in the sealer are much smaller in a solvent based sealer, which means they will penetrate deeper into the granite.
What you want are the pores of the granite to be clogged, thus sealed, which will give you more time to clean up spills.
Remember, just because you seal your granite countertops, doesn't mean they will be completely bullet proof from staining, or even non-absorbent.
With lighter colored granites, they do tend to be less dense, therefore more porous.
Sometimes even with a sealer, they can still absorb liquids, so don't be surprised even after you seal them, they still absorb water.
