Newly Installed Travertine - How Clean Does It Need to Be Prior to Sealing
We had 4000 sq ft of travertine installed in our new house. (Heating is radiant floor heat.)
Our installers, swept, vacuumed and then mopped up the floors with water. Does this process provide a clean enough surface to seal the travertine?
If not what else needs to be done prior to applying sealer?
Will any remaining "dirt, grout, etc." scratch travertine, or hamper the sealing process?
Yes any remaining dirt or grout can scratch your travertine tile. Also, the longer the dirt, grout, grout haze sits on the travertine tile, the more it bonds with the travertine tile.
I would scrub it clean before sealing. If it's just a little bit here and there you should be okay.
If you had some good installers, they should have done a good job of cleaning all the grout during installation.
We've done a ton of clean and seal jobs after installation, which does make a difference.
I hope this information helps.
