My Travertine is "Smeary" Looking After Applying a Sealer

by Kathline Collins
(Gainesville, GA)

I cleaned and applied an enhancer/sealer to my Travertine today and it looks streaky and smeary.

The directions on the Tile Guard bottle didn't say anything about buffing, but is that what I need to do?

I feel like I did all this work and it actually looks worse than when I started.

I'm a single mom just trying to maintain the house by doing things myself.

Can you provide any insight?

Thanks very much!

Kathline

Kathline,

What you needed to do is after applying the enhancing sealer, you need to wipe off any residue a few minutes later.

If the enhancer dries on the surface, re-apply the enhancer to reactivate it and then wipe off right away.

Try reactivating the enhancer and then remove the residue right away. Any buffing you do will be done by hand with a cotton cloth.

This should work. The sooner the better.

Good luck!

Pedro

thank you

Thank you for your answer! The directions disn't say anything about wiping off the product after applying it. It said to let it dry for 30 minutes and then reapply if desired. So I need to reapply the sealer to reactivate it, then wipe it off with a separate dry cloth after a few minutes? It seems like I'm wiping off what I just applied. How long should I wait until wiping off and can I just use old towel rags?
