Limestone Tile Cleaning
If you are tasked with limestone tile cleaning, you know how difficult it can be.
Limestone is very porous and will absorb liquids and dirt, and needs to be cleaned deeply periodically.
For everyday limestone maintenance cleaning we recommend using neutral cleaners, that are good for all natural stone and mild
enough not to break down any limestone sealers.
For deep
cleaning limestone floors
we recommend using a stone cleaner that is safe for marble.
These cleaners may have some akalinity which will help breakdown dirt and oils.
Before
sealing limestone
be sure the limestone surface is completely dry before the sealer is applied.
Sometimes limestone can take a few days to completely dry and you will have to make that determinations when you're cleaning it.
If you have
limestone countertops
they also need to periodic cleaning and sealing.
How to Clean Limestone
Cleaning limestone floors is the same as cleaning any natural stone and isn't a hard task.
Don't be worried about damaging your stone.
We always recommend neutral cleaners for all natural stone surfaces and that includes limestone tile.
Neutral cleaners are safe for all natural stone and tile and grout surfaces.
If you have more soiled limestone, you can use an akaline cleaner that is
safe for stone surfaces.
Once you've chosen your cleaner, what you want to do is:
- Mop the solution on your stone and let it dwell 10-20 minutes making sure not to let it dry.
- Scrub the grout lines with a grout brush and the limestone tiles with a deck brush.
- Mop up the dirty solution and rinse with warm water a few times.
What ever you clean your stone surface with, always rinse well and dry completely with a cotton or
microfiber cloth.
Drying it completely helps because any wet area left to dry, may have dirt left in
it which doesn't evaporate like the water does.
