How to Clean Travertine Tile
When learning how to clean travertine tile there is one thing you should be aware of, that it is a calcium based stone, which makes it
susceptible to etching by any acidic liquid.
It's important to know what cleaners are being used on your travertine tile
and to avoid any acidic chemicals.
We tend to see this near areas where acidic cleaning chemicals are used, like around the toilet bowl.
This is especially important if your travertine tile has a polished finish, because any etching that could occur,
will dull the polished finish, making it looked stained.
This also happens with a honed finish, but is more easily
seen in a polished finish.
In general, mopping travertine tile floors regularly with a
neutral floor cleaner
and a flat mop, will be the best and easiest way to maintain the travertine floor.
How to Clean Travertine
Cleaning travertine tile is the same as cleaning any natural stone and isn't a hard task.

If you have more soiled travertine like in the photo above, you can use a

Once you've chosen your cleaner, what you want to do is:
- Mop the solution on your stone and let it dwell 10-20 minutes making sure not to let it dry.
- Scrub the grout lines with a grout brush and the travertine tiles with a deck brush.
- Mop up the dirty solution and rinse with warm water a few times.
