clean & seal slate tile in shower -walls only
I have a slate tile shower that needs soap scum removed and then I would like to seal the tiles....what would be the process and products for this task?
First you want to do a very thorough cleaning of the walls and I would expect the floor as well.
I would use the Soap Scum Remover we sell on the website. The name is MB-3 Soap Scum Remover.
I would also use 3" razor blade scrapers to help you with removing the soap scum.
This may take scrubbing, scraping and more scrubbing all the while keeping the slate wet with your diluted soap scum remover.
Once you feel you've removed as much as you can get off the slate, I would rinse very well.
After allowing the slate to dry it's ready for the sealer. The sealer we usually use to seal slate tile is the MB-21 Enhancing Sealer.
The reason we use the Enhancing Sealer is slate in it's natural state has a chalky appearance.
Using the enhancing sealer darkens the slate thus hiding the chalky appearance.
You can also use the MB-4 Sealer we sell too, but it will not darken the stone, leaving a natural look.
I hope this helps.
Good luck and happy scrubbing.
