Best sealer for a slate shower?
My bathroom's been done in slate tile (shower and all), and I'm looking for the best sealer in that wet environment.
Water based sealer's seem to lack longevity. If allowed to dry completely before application, is there a solvent based sealer I could use?
I always recommend an enhancing sealer, because it darkens the slate tile and brings out the colors of the slate.
We offer a great enhancing sealer on the products page located on the right hand side of this website.
It is a solvent based sealer, which usually holds up better than water based sealer, but because you have slate, you are in for some challenges.
Slate tile in a shower setting is a very challenging position to say the least.
Soap scum and calcium will be a constant battle and I suggest to keep on top of it.
No amount of sealer will help the absorption of both soap scum and calcium. Clean with soap scum removers more often (available on the products page) than not.
When you begin to see any build up, use razor blades to help you remove the build up.
I would clean deeply at least once a year and seal at least once a year.
Good luck as you will need it. Slate is a very challenging material when it comes to a wet environment.
