A Film on Granite

There's a film on my granite and the house is brand new. I tried some over the counter cleaners and they didn't really work, I tried using a brand new razor in one area and i scraped off a white powdery film. What can I use or how can I get this film off. I was told mineral spirits, I would like a pros opinion.
Without seeing the granite and what's on it, I can't be sure. You said it's a new house, so maybe it's just construction dust. First I would try wiping it with warm water and dish soap, followed with a dry towel. The dry towel is very important and I think will do the trick.
If after this first cleaning doesn't work, then something may have been applied to the granite. You said you used a razor blade and it removed a powdery substance. This may have been construction dust, such as sheet-rock dust or may have been an coating of some kind.
If it is a coating of some kind, you can try using a 3" razor blade throughout the countertop. There are coating removers, but you may want to consult a professional before applying one yourself.
I hope this information helps. It's hard to know exactly the situation without seeing the granite in person.
